CCCONT — Cross Connection Control Testers

In this training, students review terminology and standards, assess hazards, select appropriate backflow prevention devices and practice installing, repairing, maintaining and testing these devices in accordance with standards. This training includes the preparation and testing for students to earn their certification.

CCREC — Cross Connection Control Recertification

AWWA Cross Connection Control Testers must be recertified every five years. This course provides the opportunity to update cross connection control knowledge and skills and then to write the required examination for re-certification. This course is intended for members with certifications that are expiring.

CONFSP — Confined Space

This course is designed for participants who enter, may be required to enter, or supervise a confined space where there is limited or restricted methods of entry and exit. This course provides a basic understanding of how to identify a confined space, the hazards within, and the necessary controls and equipment. Participants will learn how to develop confined space entry procedures, permits, hazard assessments, and emergency response plans. This course meets the regulatory requirements for workers and supervisors who work in confined space environments.

CSAMED — CSA Medical Gas

This 40-hour Medical G.A.S. program will prepare pipe trades workers to install medical gas piping and give them the skills and abilities to complete work safely and securely in all forms of construction and maintenance operations in a hospital. CERTIFICATION: CSA Group will provide the online written exam that ensures compliance to the CSA Z7396.1-17 Medical Gas Standard. The CSA/NAUSC certification is valid for five years. PRE-REQUISITE: A Provincial or Red Seal Certificate of Qualification for Steamfitter or Plumber.

This course is designed to help participants prepare to write the EPRI rigging re-certification exam.

EPRRIG — EPRI Rigging

The EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) Rigging course is designed to educate and certify journeyperson members about the complexities of working safely as rigging specialists. Members interested in taking this course need a strong rigging background, with at least three to five years of experience. To obtain certification, journeypersons must complete: 1. Three (3) practical examinations. 2. A 100 question, 90-minute computer generated exam with a minimum grade of 80%.

EWP — MEWP

Mobile Elevated Work Platform Training – Boom Lift and Scissor Lift Training will prepare you to safely operate boom lifts and scissor lifts in compliance with provincial and federal regulations. Fall Protection Training is a prerequisite for this course.

FALLPR — Fall Protection

This course is designed for participants who work, plan, or supervise work areas where fall protection is required. Participants will learn the different types of fall protection, how to identify and control fall hazards, how to complete fall protection safe work plans, and how to select, inspect, and fit full body harnesses. This course meets regulatory requirements for fall protection training in Nova Scotia.

FHYDRA — Fire Hydrants-Inspection, Testing and Maintenence

This course will review the types of hydrants along with the installation, repair, maintenance, inspection, and testing procedures.

FIRSTA — First Aid

This course meets the CSA standards for Basic First Aid. Emergency First Aid Level C is for individuals requiring basic information on First Aid and CPR for their workplace, school, or personal.

FORK — Forklift Training

This course will train participants to safely operate Class 1, Class 4, Class 5 and Class 7 lift trucks. Classroom and hands on practical instruction will be provided. Safety footwear is mandatory.

FPS B — Fire Pum Service - Bearings

This (1) one day course will cover the tear down and rebuild of a fire pump with primary focus on bearing removal and replacement. Both horizontal split case and vertical in-line pumps will be covered. Work boots are required.

FPS P — Fire Pump Service - Packing

This (1) one day course will cover the tear down and rebuild of a fire pump with primary focus on repacking, lubricating, cleaning, and adjustment of a working fire pump. Work boots are required.

FPSPA — Fire Pump Service - Pump/Driver Alignment

This (1) one day course will cover the requirements of alignment for horizontal split case fire pumps. Process of angular and parallel alignment will be covered with both conventional hand tools and laser alignment equipment. Work boots are required.

FPUMP1 — Fire Pump 1

This course is for members with limited or no experience installing fire pumps. Topics to be covered include: fire pump theory, types of pumps and applications, basic hydraulic calculations, installation & acceptance test requirements and related codes.

FPUMP2 — Fire Pump - Annual Inpection and Testing

This (1) one day course will focus on Fire Pump Inspection and annual testing. Areas that will be covered include: requirements for a proper fire pump inspection, procedures for annual testing, safe use of testing equipment, plotting test results, completing associated testing documents, in addition to basic trouble shooting. Work boots are required.

FPUMP3 — Fire Pump 3 (Fire Pump Maintenance)

Pumps are critical and essential components of water-based fire protection systems. Proper installation, operation, repair and maintenance including testing is vital for successful fire protection. Fire Pump 3 includes theory based training as well as practical exercises involving fire pump maintenance, disassembly, assessment, pump repairs, and re-assembly. Introduction to fire pump packing and an introduction to Fire pump alignment are also included in this training. Must be at least a level 3 apprentice or higher to attend.

G-7 — G-7 Gas

This course prepares students to install uncharged gas piping systems of any size from the outlet of the meter or second stage regulator to the last shut off valve before the appliance.

NAU SS — NAUSC Shop Steward

This certification program is designed to provide consistent training for all Stewards across Canada and to emphasize the UA Standard for Excellence and the Steward’s critical role in its success. Stewards will gain a strong understanding of their role in working with the supervision in the workplace environment. Methods for working with management and union members toward a more productive jobsite, while ensuring that workplace issues do not escalate and interfere with operations and productivity on the job will be explained. Other topics that are covered include workplace law and the historical background on unions with discussion on how they relate to the role of a working union steward.

SUPER1 — NAUSC Supervision - Level 1 Certification Program

Formerly named the NAUSC Foreman Certification Program, this training program offers essential skills and concepts needed to supervise a crew in the many sectors that Piping Professionals work within. Topics include communication & core values, planning, documentation, and legal responsibilities. Included in the program are sessions designed to build personal and supervisory skills, plan and supervise a multi-discipline work crew, manage safety requirements, provide essential training in due diligence and discipline, and workflow scheduling. The course uses individual and group activities and quizzes to reinforce learning. The NAUSC Supervision Level 1 program is a prerequisite course for the NAUSC Supervision Level 2 program and the Industrial Construction Crew Supervisor (ICCS) designation (Alberta). It may qualify for other provincial designations.

SUPER2 — NAUSC Supervision - Level 2 Certification Program

This training program builds on the essential skills and concepts learned in Level 1. Topics include communication & core values, planning, documentation, and legal responsibilities; a major component will be in class projects that encapsulate all topics presented. Sessions will include in depth examination of workflow scheduling, budget management, human resources, and planning a safe worksite. This program will also recognize the importance of lifelong learning as it applies to supervisory roles. Professional development will be presented as a method to promote professionalism in the role of a UA Supervisor. This course uses individial and group activities, and quizzes to reinforce learning. This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Associated (CCA) for 10 Gold Seal credits.
